ABSTRACT: The genus Ocimum, Lamiaceae, is well
respected among some of the amazing herbs to have enormous potential. Each
species presents morphotypes and chemotypes and this variability makes the
richness of the genre with many possibilities of aromatic profiles and
ornamental patterns. The work made with the genus Ocimum are numerous in Brazil and in the world, and apparently are
concentrated on the chemistry, Pharmacology and medicinal use. Works with
agronomic approach are needed and have been made at the Faculty of Agronomy and
veterinary medicine of UnB, whether in the form of final graduation work,
dissertations and doctoral theses. It is important to know the effect of the
cultivation in pots used on agronomic experimentation on plant growth and development
and, in particular, determine the point of harvest that allows greater contrast
of the treatments. The objective of the present work was to verify the
influence of the size of the pot in the development of one access of Ocimum basilicum grown under glasshouse.
The plants were transplanted to plastic vases with variable capacity,
corresponding to test treatments: 1.0; 3.0; 4.0 and 6.0 liters capacity, filled
with fertile mix. The experimental design was completely randomized with six replications
and the experimental plot consisted of a vase containing one plant. The results
indicated that the size of the vase influenced on productivity of the access of
Ocimum basilicum, in plant
architecture with more branching and increasing the biomass harvested in plants
grown in the vessels of greater volume, and phenology, anticipating the
flowering in plants grown in smaller vessels.
